First Fleet of Mitsubishi’s 2012 i Delivered to San Francisco Nonprofit January 2012

Mitsubishi Motorsrecently delivered the first fleet of its new 2012i, its 100 percent electric vehicle, to the California Bay Area CityCarSharein a special ceremony. City CarShare is a San Francisco area nonprofit organization that promotes mobility options by providing short-term access to cars. City CarShare helps to reduce traffic congestion, parking problems and oil dependence while promoting cleaner air and quieter streets in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland.“We are very pleased to introduce the all-electric Mitsubishi i into our fleet,” said City CarShare CEO Rick Hutchinson. “This vehicle brings us one step closer toward our goal of having 50 percent of our fleet run on alternative fuel as part of our mission to decrease carbon emissions in the Bay Area.”Mitsubishi Motors North America CEO Yoichi Yokozawa added, “We thank the Bay Area’s City CarShare for being the first fleet recipient of our innovative 100 percent electric-powered vehicle. City CarShare’s stated goals are to help promote modes of personal transportation that help improve the environment while reducing noise pollution as well as fossil fuel dependence, so the 2012 Mitsubishi i is the perfect vehicle to help achieve this nonprofit’s ambitious mission.”The i takes about 22.5 hours on a 120-volt service to fully charge and gets 112 combined MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent). TheEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA)ranked the i as the most fuel efficient model for 2012 (can go 62 miles on one charge) and is currently the least expensive electric vehicle on the U.S. market.Mitsubishi reports that fleet orders for the model have already been placed by a wide variety of organizations. The Mitsubishi i is the first of several new advanced technology vehicles that the Japanese auto manufacturer plans on bringing into the North American market during the next few years.
