NAFTC members identified the creation of standards for
an accreditable EV degree program as a priority issue.
Subsequently, the NAFTC received federal funding to
develop recommendations and a course framework for an
accreditable Electric Vehicle Automotive Associate
Degree. The results are intended to help automotive
instructors and their institution’s leaders create
high-quality EV program offerings to ensure a
well-prepared workforce.
Because demand exists for both hybrid and battery
electric vehicle technicians, the recommendations
developed by NAFTC members address both vehicle
platforms.
NAFTC members believe that EV education standards would
assure students, their families, and their prospective
employers of the quality of an institution’s EV
education offerings.
The EV recommendations by a select team of NAFTC members
are built on the ASE Education Foundation automotive
degree program accreditation guidelines. A professional
development workshop was created by the project team to
share the recommendations with Community and Technical
College automotive instructors, automotive department
chairpersons, and CTC deans or similar leaders.
The objective of this workshop is to share the
recommendations and resources to help Community and
Technical Colleges be positioned to achieve the goal of
creating a well-prepared EV workforce.
